Saint Anthony (ca. 1195 – June 13, 1231) is also venerated as Saint Anthony of Lisbon and Saint Anthony of Padua.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, he died near Padua in Italy and is buried in the great Basilica in Padova.

The great Basilica contains many fine works of art devoted to the very popular saint.

In the 1980s, Annigoni painted a number of frescoes of scenes from the life of the saint to go along those painted by masters from the centuries.

The fresco of St. Anthony preaching from the walnut tree depicts the episode from his life in Camposampiero (Padua) where the Saint, just before his death, spent a brief period of rest and reflection (from the second half of May to 13 June 1231).
